New Mexico's Licensing and Regulation Department has a large order -- to regulate 33 industries and over 200,000 professional licensees in the state. Its reach ranges from carnival rides and manufactured housing to psychologists, private investigators and securities firms. The department's goal in carrying out its responsibilities is to balance "the needs of the business community for growth and development with those of the health and safety of citizens and visitors to New Mexico," its mission states.
